For the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism in 2023 with the theme ‘I AM A MAN, I AM AGAINST GBV,’’ an impactful event was held in the rural areas. The community came together to raise awareness and take a stand against gender-based violence (GBV). Men played a significant role in this event, emphasizing their commitment to ending GBV and promoting gender equality.
Various activities and initiatives were organized during the 16-day campaign to engage community members in meaningful discussions about the importance of preventing and addressing GBV. Workshops, awareness sessions, and interactive forums were held to educate individuals on the different forms of GBV, its impact on individuals and society and how everyone can contribute to creating a violence- free environment.
Participants shared personal stories, testimonials and insights on how GBV affects both men and women in the community. Through these open and honest dialogues, stereotypes and misconceptions were challenged, leading to a better understanding of the complex nature of GBV and the need for collective action to combat it.
In addition to raising awareness, the Event in this community also focused on highlighting the crucial role men play in preventing GBV. Men were encouraged to challenge toxic masculinity, promote healthy and respectful relationships, and serve as positive role models in their families and communities. By actively involving men in the fight against GBV, the event aimed to break down barriers, foster inclusivity, and build a more gender-equitable society.
As the 16 Days of Activism came to a close, a sense of unity and empowerment resonated throughout the community. Community members pledged to continue their efforts in combating GBV, supporting survivors, and advocating for lasting change. By standing together and declaring ‘ I A MAN, I AM AGAINST GBV,” the event reaffirmed the community’s commitment to creating a safer, more equal world for all.
