Girl Child WASH Program in Rusape

Distribution of Sanitary Pads kits at Manonga Secondary School (Rusape, Zimbabwe) on 24 April 2021

Unlimited Hope Alliance Trust (UHA) distributed sanitary pads kits received from Hellenic Association of Zimbabwe and pads from other well-wishers in Zimbabwe. 55 girls received the kits including mothers of 10 girls living with disabilities. It was a big relief to the girl child as it was reported by the community care givers that most girls from disadvantaged homes were missing lessons during menstruation hence affecting class performance.

The event was attended by community leaders , teachers responsible for the welfare of girls. The Community care givers reported that there are more girls who need such assistance. Only form 1 to 3 girls received the kit. It is our wish to cover all the 9 schools in the ward.

It was reported that due to the inability to effectively manage menstruation 1 out of 4 girls misses lessons due to lack of sanitary pads.

‘’ Now I can attend school lessons when I am menstruating without fearing to stain my school uniform with blood,” said one of the recipient.

‘’ I was using cloths that I would cut from my old dresses to hold the blood from staining my school uniform or dresses but it didn’t help because blood would stain my uniform,” said one the girls.

UHAT would like to thank all well wishers and stakeholders who made the event possible.
